WHO WE ARE
Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP is a fast-paced civil litigation firm, with a deep breadth of expertise in all areas of insurance law. We have argued and won in all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. We pride ourselves on providing client-focused solutions to complex legal problems.
OUR PROGRAM
We view our students as future lawyers at the firm. We provide extensive training to our students and hands-on practical experience. Our students work directly with all levels of lawyers, including senior partners during their tenure. As a student at ZTGH, you will be exposed to the other practical aspects of a litigation practice by meeting and dealing with clients and other lawyers. Our students assist lawyers in preparation for mediations, arbitrations, and may accompany them to court virtually and in person. Student enthusiasm and talents are always welcome at social events. We have weekly virtual seminars for continuing education to provide guidance to students and lawyers, in addition to our strong mentoring program. We respect, listen to, and give our students the chance to maximize their abilities.

OVERVIEW
Since inception, Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP has experienced dynamic growth and development. Because we view our articling students as the prime source for our firm’s future growth, we place significant emphasis on our training programmes for our students to develop their legal experience and skills.
Ours is a small fast-paced firm. We do not have the same hierarchy for student assignments seen at other firms. Instead, our students get hands-on practical experience, direct file handling responsibility, and direct client contact. Our students also get opportunities to appear in court and put their advocacy training to work.
In addition, our students get the opportunity to attend with and assist senior lawyers on trials and tribunal proceedings, and participate in assisting lawyers on these files from start to finish. Our students work directly with senior partners, and indeed, with all levels of lawyers within our office during their course of their articles.
CLIENT CONTACT
We have confidence in our students. With supervision, our students handle their own Small Claims files in direct consultation with the firm’s clients.
A big part of our firm’s success rests on firm-client interaction. As such, our students will meet and work with our clients throughout. From assisting our lawyers on larger, more complex files, to running smaller files, client relationships are important at every stage.
Students can expect to meet clients during client meetings, mock cross-examinations, client events, discoveries, trials, mediations, etc.
MENTORING
All lawyers in the firm, from senior partners to junior associates, are fully approachable and welcome an opportunity to participate in the training and legal education of our students. We maintain and “open-door” policy throughout the office to provide guidance and direction to students, not only on particular file matters, but also on general practice matters. We respect, listen to, and give out students the chance to maximize their abilities.
Our current Articling Committee consists of several of our firm partners who act as our firms articling Principals.
HIRE BACK
Our willingness to hire our students as lawyers is not based on the volume of work at the firm. We will find a place for a student who has exhibited both talent and drive.
COMPENSATION
We pay our students a competitive salary comparable to those paid by large metropolitan firms. We also provide articling students with a dental, health and life insurance plan, and a paid vacation.
DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING
As a Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP articling student, you will receive comprehensive, practical exposure to our practice. You may assist lawyers in preparation for trials, mediation, arbitration and other hearings, and you may accompany them into court. Under supervision, you will conduct Small Claims Court litigation and appear frequently before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on motions. You will be exposed to other practical aspects of our diversified litigation practice by meeting and dealing with clients and other lawyers, drafting pleadings, motion materials, factums and memoranda of law. Since there is no formal rotation, students get a chance to have a breadth of experience, from involvement in big files to small files, plaintiff and defence, accident benefit, property and tort.
We also promote ongoing training through bi-weekly seminars.
SOCIAL
Student enthusiasm and talents are always welcome at our firms social and client events, including:
- Annual Client Seminar
- Summer party
- Holiday party
- Associate Retreat
