SONYA M. KATRYCZ
Sonya earned a double honors Bachelor’s Degree from the University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She attended Osgoode Hall Law School, where she worked in the business clinic and as an instructor with the Ontario Justice Education Network. She earned a scholarship to study international dispute resolution and spent one semester as a funded guest of the Master of Laws Program at Trinity College Dublin.
Since her call to the bar of Ontario in 2013, Sonya has cultivated a deep breadth of litigation experience and has defended insurers in hundreds of actions pertaining to bodily injury, accident benefits, professional liability, and product liability. She is passionate about coverage work particularly with respect to commercial general liability policies. Sonya is a preferred legal vendor for the OCA (Ontario Camps Association) and regularly writes and speaks on business interruption and liability risks affecting the summer camp community. She works with camp owners and directors to navigate complex staff and camper issues, develop and refine codes of conduct and internal policies, facilitate targeted staff discussions on sensitive topics, and strengthen overall risk management practices.
Sonya joined the ZTGH partnership in 2024 and is a member of the Licence Appeal Tribunal and Workplace Safety Insurance practice groups. Sonya serves as the co-chair for the Examination Under Oath practice group at the firm. She serves on the EDI subcommittee of the Canadian Defence Lawyers.
When not in the office, Sonya volunteers her time and legal expertise as a board member of the Canada-Mathare Education Trust.
