THOMAS J. HANRAHAN
*Tom has retired from Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP as of December 31, 2021. He is still available for Umpire Work.
Tom graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in history and political science. After working in the insurance industry, Tom obtained his AIIC (CIP) from the Insurance Institute of Canada. In 1986, Tom decided to return to school and obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. Tom has been recognized by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in Canada list in the area of insurance law.
Tom’s central areas of practice are property and general liability. He has worked in all areas of insurance practice, including property, business interruption, products liability, and fraudulent claims for arson and stock losses. On the personal injury side, Tom has handled various types of claims, from motor vehicle to commercial passenger, sports injury, and slip and fall accidents. Tom has provided coverage opinions on almost every type of property policy and has handled marine losses for oceangoing and land marine and warehousing. On a number of occasions, Tom has assisted insurers with policy re-writes.
Tom has taught the CIP and FIIC insurance courses at the University of Toronto.
Tom has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in Canada list, in the areas of insurance law and personal injury litigation.
Tom is a member of the Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association and is available for appraisal and umpire hearings. To learn more about this work or to book a meeting, please click here.
