Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT)
Our LAT practice group is ready for the fundamental changes in the way accident benefits disputes are resolved. Effective April 1st, 2016, the Ministry of the Attorney General’s Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT) will begin accepting accident benefit dispute applications and presiding over the process.
The mandate of the LAT is to achieve a resolution of disputes within a six month time frame. Under the LAT system, we expect shorter wait times for hearings – and for hearings to be shorter in duration. As such, insurers will need a team of lawyers who can quickly mobilize resources to meet these demands. Our LAT practice group and practice group co-chairs, Heather Kawaguchi and Peter Durant, stand ready to serve our clients and have prepared a seminar for industry professionals. If you are interested in booking a seminar or have a question about the group, please contact us.
